Walmart to Expand its South Jersey Stores
Walmart revealed on Wednesday its plan to expand and remodel its
five South Jersey stores and in-store, and online innovations to help customers
save up money and time.
The five-targeted stores are in Marlton, Cinnaminson, Lumberton,
Turnersville, and Rio Grande.
The giant retailer is already building a new store on Route 73 and
Fellowship Road in Mount Laurel, which are set to open before summer.
Walmart plans are part of the retail giant’s $68 million spending
for upgrades, expansions, and innovations at its 12 New Jersey stores.
“At Walmart, we’re always seeking opportunities to improve, in
every facet of what we do,” Glen Spencer, a Walmart regional manager, stated.
“This multimillion-dollar commitment to our stores and technology
will provide customers with a significantly enhanced shopping experience,
whether they’re in one of our stores, or making a purchase online.”
Meanwhile, there are new features that will be coming to these
stores and other Walmart locations. The new features are Online Grocery Pickup,
Mobile Express Scan & Go, and Walamart Pickup Towers.
Walmart described Pickup Towers as a “high-tech vending machine” that
allows customers to pick up their online orders in less than a minute by
scanning a bar code sent to their smartphone. As of now, this service is only
available at the Walmart in Marietta.
The South Jersey stores which are scheduled for both expansion and
remodeling for this year are the Walmart in Cinnaminson and Rio Grande.
Walmart Seals Deal with Postmates
On Tuesday, Walmart said that it is teaming up with Postmates, an
on-demand delivery service, as the giant retailer is agfressively builds out
its delivery service offerings to hedge against the increasing dominance of
Amazon Inc.
According to the Bentonville, Arkansas-based Walmart, with the
addition of Postmates the company will be able to reach around 40 percent of
households around the U.S.
The new agreement should intensify the online grocery war waging
among retailers, such as Walmart and Target following Amazon’s $13.7 billion
takeover of Whole Foods Market in August last year.
The deal between Walmart and Postmates will roll out in Charlotte and
North Carolina. It will also expand to more cities across the U.S. in the
coming months.
The service will allow the retailer giant to provide same-day delivery
to its consumers who ordered to the company’s website or grocery app.
