Netflix Unveils New Feature on its Mobile App
Netflix is unveiling its own take on Instagram stories and
Snapchat after the global streaming giant started to roll out 30-second preview
videos for its mobile viewers.
The new feature looks like Instagram Stories due to its circular thumbnails
and it plays virtual videos. In addition to that, they play like a slideshow,
allowing consumers to tap to skip to the next video.
Meanwhile, users can store the shows they want to see later on by
clicking a button that adds them to their viewing list.
The latest feature will be available on Netflix iOS app starting
April 19, and the company stated that it would be available soon on Android.
Netflix have been offering previews on its website and its TV app.
The Los Gatos, California based company stated that the latest feature would
help viewers who use their phone to discover new content to watch.
“Years of testing have made it clear that video previews help our
members browse less and discover new content more quickly. With the launch of
mobile previews, we are bringing a video browse experience to your mobile phone
in a fun and mobile-optimized way,” Netflix said.
The company, on the other hand, gained 7.41 million new
subscribers in the first quarter of 2018 and it is expected to gain 6.2 million
subscribers in the next quarter.
Netflix is also continuously to see a strong streaming revenue
growth. As of the first quarter of this year, the company has a total sale of
$3.6 billion.
Netflix Moving to Big Screen
Netflix has explored the idea of purchasing movie theaters in Los Angeles
and New York City. This would enable the company to screen a mounting pipeline
of feature films and documentaries, the people who are familiar with the matter
stated.
The executives of Netflix considered purchasing the Los
Angeles-based Landmark Theaters. However, the company backed off the idea.
According to one of the sources, the global streaming giant
decided not to pursue the deal due to the executives believed that the sale
price for Landmark was too high.
The idea of Netflix purchasing a theater chain would mark a new phase in the
company’s rapid ascent to become one of the most strongest competitors in the
entertainment industry.
