The Samsung Galaxy Fold, a $1,980-device soon to be available for purchase, is getting reports of damaged displays on some of its samples. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said it has received "a few" reports on their latest iteration of the Samsung Galaxy having issues within just a few days of use.

The Galaxy Fold, a standard-sized smartphone at 4.6 inches but opens like a book to resemble a display much like the size of a small tablet at 7.3 inches, will be available in the United States from April 26.

The tech giant sent sample devices to major publications across the U.S. on Monday before the model’s public release, but within just two days of testing the product, the central flexible screen was observed to have started breaking under normal use.

A reviewer from Bloomberg said in a tweet, "the screen on my Galaxy Fold review unit is completely broken and unusable just two days in. Hard to know if this is widespread or not." Samsung addressed this by warning users that removing a protective layer on the screen, which some of the reviewers seem to have done, might result in damage.

Another reviewer from The Verge said there was a "small bulge" on what he considered a defective hinge.

A tech editor from CNBC.com tweeted a video of half of his sample’s screen flickering after using it for just a day saying that the issue “is very troubling”.

In a statement, Samsung said, “a limited number of early Galaxy Fold samples were provided to media for review. We have received a few reports regarding the main display on the samples provided. We will thoroughly inspect these units in person to determine the cause of the matter.”

In spite of this, Samsung said it will not reschedule the planned release date of the unit and claims that it plans to make at least 1 million Samsung Galaxy Fold models compared to the total of 300 million phones it produces annually.

Pre-orders for the Fold was shut-off due to "high demand".

"I think as time goes on, its yield rate will improve, and foldables that customers have in hand will be much better, but I don't know if Samsung can completely fix the problem about screens," said an analyst at NH Investment & Securities.
