On Tuesday, in Paris, Huawei introduced its two new flagship phones, the P30 series. The Chinese tech company shifted its focus onto Europe as the United States have had it banned for suspicions of committing espionage.  Huawei unveiled the new P30 and P30 Pro, as well as its new innovative take on eyeglasses which Huawei refers to as the “smart eyewear”.

The P30 series will be the successor to Huawei’s successful product line, the P20 series, and is set to be released on April 5th of this year. Huawei’s smart eyewear, on the other hand, will be available in the market on July with more information yet to be disclosed.

In Q4 of 2018, the tech giant sold 13.3 million, a whopping 55.7% increase from previous year’s sales, in Europe alone. The P20 maker is looking onto selling up to 260 million devices globally this year with its bets on the newly-announced smartphone pushing the boundaries to achieve this target.

Huawei’s consumer products CEO, Richard Yu, claimed that every year, they pour huge resources into technology and innovation, and that Huawei is leading innovation to create a better-connected life.

The third best ranked smartphone manufacturer is also looking into being a world leader in 5G, and Europe is welcoming Huawei’s global ambitions with open arms. However, discussions about better management of cybersecurity was suggested by the European Commission as the world gets ready for 5G technology.

Abraham Liu, Huawei’s chief representative to the EU, stated, “Huawei understands the cybersecurity concerns that European regulators have. Huawei looks forward to contributing to the European framework on cybersecurity. We are firmly committed to continue working with all regulators and partners to make the 5G rollout in Europe a success.”

Daniel Hernandez, device unit director for Spain’s Telefonica, said, “Huawei is ahead of competition when it comes to 5G technology.”

“Not only in infrastructure, but also in devices. Huawei continues to bring innovation every six months. They continue to improve their products and they continue to bring that hunger and drive that makes the company truly unique. That’s why we want to work with them, because we have the same ambition,” he added.

The United States, in contrast, has been unfavorable of Huawei, and persuaded its European allies to remove the Chinese tech company from their networks similar with the decisions it has made.
