Apple WWDC Keynote Sends Shares to Trade 1.7% Higher
On Monday, shares of Apple Inc were seen trading higher as the company kicked off its annual Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday. The event which was attended by thousands of developers revealed the company's upcoming plans and updates in terms of its products.
The event held in San Jose California is held every year where thousands of programmers from different parts of the world gather to hear the company announce and discuss its upcoming updates, tools, and features. It is also during the WWDC where the company is known to announce its next operating system.
WWDC 2018 Announcements
During the event, the upcoming iOS 12 has been announced by the company. The operating system set for official release this coming September will be made available for any device which has been installed with the current iOS 11.
The iOS 12 will offer users updates such as improvements in device speed and the addition of new Siri shortcuts. This update will allow the customization of voice commands which can be connected to applications as well. The company has expanded its efforts in making investors take a look at the Apple smart assistant.
Apple will also be upgrading its augmented reality platform through the ARkit 2.0 which will reveal a new format of the AR. This is set to come along with the iOS 12 when the update is released later this year.
An improved “Do Not Disturb” feature will also be added along with the update with users being able to set time limits on specific applications supporting people who are trying to cut back time spent on device usage.
The Apple Watch will also be given an operating system update that will include new features such as interactive notifications allowing the user to respond to reservations or even make payments from the Watch application. A new feature allowing users to send memos to other Apple Watch users through cellular or Wi-Fi connections is also set to be added to the Apple Watch OS.
Apple’s Mac computers were also given a highlight during the event with updates and security features being included and are set to be made available at the new Mac App Store. Aside from these, Apple also announced that starting next year, applications made by third-party developers from the iOS can now be opened at their Mac computers.
Aside from the updates set to be made on Apple devices, Apple also reiterated its commitment to privacy as stated by Apple software engineering vice president who stated that the Apple web browser, Safari would now begin blocking comment field tracking which Facebook has previously used to harvest behavior data from users. A feature set to fight user tracking techniques is also expected to be launched.
Apple Stock
Apple shares which received an outlook for a $1 trillion valuation from analysts from the past couple of months, were seen trading higher during Monday’s trading session as it kicked off the first day of the annual developer conference.
The stock recorded a rally of more than 1% during the trading session with Apple shares seen trading at around $193.42 per share. This pushed the market cap of the company higher than $940 billion closer to prior forecasts of a $1 trillion valuation. Apple shares, which have rallied by more than 20% since the past twelve months, are still expected to climb higher in the upcoming trading session and prior to its upcoming September event where the company is known for officially releasing updates and new products.
